BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB [11 Songs - Solo Acoustic - London - April 2002]

BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB
[11 Songs - Solo Acoustic - London - April 2002]

BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB is the independent singer/songwriter's second album for 2006, his most recent release being the impressive and quixotic OP-ED: Environmental / Social / Political , an inspired compilation of acoustic material on ukulele and guitar recorded in Hawaii during February of 2006.

Moving regularly during recent years between The Netherlands and the UK, New Zealand, Hawaii and now the US west coast, Daniel packed, moved, paired down, lost and rediscovered his possessions many times. In the process of his most recent move, however, a mini disc recorded in 2002 resurfaced to provide the foundation material for this new bootlegged album. Captured during a live performance at London's 12 Bar Club, this release is unique in that it came about more through chance than planning.

BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB fits well with Daniel's former efforts, presenting previously recorded work in an inspired, live and character-filled format much like Bootlegged at the Temple did in 2000.

While the Bootlegged at the Temple album reflected a certain uncomplicated poignancy, his most recent BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB offers considerably more depth, both in terms of performance and musical development. This growth may be seen as a natural consequence of the passage of time, but it also reflects the dynamic, ardent nature of Daniel's song writing and his willingness to approach/rearrange his songs differently on the night.

Recorded live in an intimate little venue in the centre of London - the 12 Bar Club - the original mini disc resulted from a sound-desk recording. The final quality is uniquely live and undoubtedly captures both the mood of the venue and the immediacy of the performance. Daniel's vocal range and delicate guitar, sometimes complimented by harmonica, are collected surprisingly well and make for a beautifully meandering compilation.

Indeed a classic live collection to add to Daniel's Truly Independent label, BOOTLEGGED AT THE 12 BAR CLUB is a moment in time, beautifully captured.

Daniel Gannaway
Since the release of his first album - FINE BY ME - in 1998, Daniel's been a strident proponent of independent music and now lists eight solo albums, as well as 2004's the kidameln lo-fi with the band kidameln , in his discography. Upcoming Truly Independent releases include an electronic debut by ELECPHONIC, a alt-country debut by theNOWawol and a sophomore album by kidameln.

The 12 Bar Club
Situated in London's music capital, 'Tin Pan Alley' or Denmark St, the 12 Bar Club is reputed to be one of the smallest live-music venues in London. This, however, provides an intense and unique atmosphere which has become well known, with the venue frequented by many high-profile musicians. In fact, the club was awarded 'Live Music Venue of the Year' in 1995-96 by London's leading entertainment magazine Time Out.

Originally built in the 17 th century (1635) as stables then converted to a forge for the St Giles area, the venue remained a 'smithies' until the advent of World War I, when it became a carpenter's shop. By 1994, some 360 years after its construction, this intimate little space finally emerged as the 12 Bar Club.

With an average of four acts per night, seven nights each week, the 12 Bar Club has been a veritable pipeline of solo and band performances for over a decade. www.12barclub.com

Previous quotes:

"... Perhaps politics might actually catch on if Gannaway were doing the singing [OP-ED], instead of John Ashcroft's barbershop quartet. It's a thought. But until the Republican or Democratic National Convention is converted into a Broadway musical, we'll have to make do with Daniel. And that's going to be just fine for fans of indie folk pop with a message." - Indie-Music

"...The great aspect of the album [SUMMER STORM] is that each song's arrangement maintains a minimalistic nature, which shows a discipline and a depth of understanding on Gannaway's part. Underneath the ukulele, the cruising drums and harmonic supporting bass grooves provide an all around easy and easily recommendable listen..." - NZ Musician Magazine

"...Down to earth and laid back, it has none of the musical tension of trying too hard or the injection of false emotions. Suburban folky and bohemian chic, it [darling one year] ties up agreeably layered and distorted vocals into an angst-ridden, quirky pop as catchy as The Strokes but easily as mysteriously engaging as James Keenan Maynard..." - Indie-Music

"...[Bound and Suburban] like walking alone on the beach at night and seeing Jim Morrison and Jeff Buckley strumming and singing at the water’s edge..." - Indie-Music

"...Herein lies the essence of Bootlegged at the Temple: simply an audience, a musician, and a quiet venue... - no hype... In context with Daniel's previous two albums - FINE BY ME and flashback* - and subsequent release 'Bound and Suburban', 'Bootlegged' is a departure, which provides the listener a greater perspective on all of his work. Bootlegged is a great live album, which, over time, becomes as much a voyage of discovery and inspiration for the listener as for the musician himself." - Justin Walsh
